You are bidding for this nice piece of EARLY AMERICAN PEWTER . It is a bulbous form PEWTER TEAPOT........made by Roswell Gleason....who was working as a pewterer in Dorchester, Massachesetts from 1822-1 871.........as listed in Jacobs book GUIDE TO AMEIRICAN PEWTER - published in 1957. This particularly form of teapot is considered to be one of the earlier forms......and exhibits the straight line touchmark - "R.GLEASON".......would date c.1830-40. The metal on the teapot exhibits nice patina and very little wear or damage. T is a small hole in the bottom of the pot, that is visible in the open teapot photo. This hole has been repaired and the repair shows a good deal larger on the bottom of the pot w is has covered the last 2 letters in Gleason's name. T are also some repairs around the very edge of the foot of the teapot......covering close to 1/2 of this very bottom area. Handle and spout are in good condition......and t are no excessive dents to body of teapot. Height on the pot is 7.5in. to tip of finial. This is a nice early teapot........worthy of any collection.
