I believe this receiver/transmitter is called a drop down transmitter that was used on a cord board at the turn of the century. The connectors are attached to each piece. The transmitter is in good condition. The wooden handle at the very bottom shows some wear. The cord is in good condition except at the end where the cord is fraying by the connector. Phone is marked Property of American Tel&Tel number 323 Pat. USA with numbers. The Receiver is in good condition. The cord is in good condition with only slight fraying on one cord near the connector. It is marked Western Electric made in the USA patent w/numbers. There appears to be a trace of white paint. Not sure and I don't clean antiques, so it may come off. I will leave that to the buyer. My description of an item may differ from another person. I am my worst critic. To a phone collector, this may be considered in excellent condition. I spent many hours researching this transmitter and had a hard time finding anything close to it. I think is a rare find because they were not available to the public. Feel free to contact me if I am wrong or you may have more information. I will be glad to add it to the listing.
