You are bidding on an absolutely RARE Victorian 19th Century Polyphon Upright Music Box! Very Nice and in completely 100% ORIGINAL Condition, this great old German Music Box was manufactured in January of 1899 and has been part of our family for over 50 years. For the last 45 years, it has remained in the exact, same position has not been moved from that spot at all. Now part of a beloved family member's estate, this rare and increasingly difficult-to-find POLYPHON disc-playing music box has never been stripped or restained and works perfectly! This is one the much more difficult-to-locate "AUTOMATIC" Polyphons that although were made in Germany, they were marketed to English Inn Keepers and Pub Owners of the time to entertain and occupy their guests and was not originally intended for use in one's home, thus making it a bit different and more rare than a home model. One of the tallest of the upright music disc players ever made and cased out of walnut or fruit wood, this Polyphon measures: 66 1/2" tall X 20" wide at its base X 13 1/2" deep and is most impressive! (We're not wood experts, but many of these great Polyphons were made of walnut, but we aren't quite sure, but it is very safe to say that judging from its wood grains and the interiour of the box w it is less stained, it looks as it's most likely walnut.) This grand music box is all original and comes with 16 original 15.5" discs that all play. Has a dual-comb music comb and has very good sound! As it is currently, in its present condition, this Polyphon would make a great addition to anyone's favorite sitting room or parlour! As can be seen in the many photos we have listed this music box with, it has its original signage and maker's marks along with a date stamp affixed to the massive main spring inside the gearworks that dates this unit to 30. January, 1899! Has its Original Polyphon manufacturer's badge on the inside at the very top and even has an original 19th Century English penny or two in its cash box! The automatic mechanism has been adjusted to operate without the dropping of a penny, but can be adjusted to only play when a coin of a certain weight is dropped into one of its two slots on either side of the box and marked by their whimsical "Drop a Penny In The Slot" signs! Obviously designed very well, this great antique was built to last several lifetimes and and will be sure to delight and enthrall its New, Lucky Owner! Keep in mind that this music box is exceptionally rare and very difficult-to-find in original condition. T is some slight warping to the very top plate of exteriour, decorative wood and along the way, some wood worms have made holes, but these are very slight imperfections that come with the territory of antiquities such as this. All of these imperfections can either be corrected (t are many antiques woodworkers a couple of those who specialise only in music boxes out t who can restore pieces like this) or...the value of this music box can be preserved and just leave it as it is--Original and working! It truly adds a great bit of elegance and late 19th Century ambience and sophistication to any room, especially those great collections rooms that so many of us have that are filled with nothing but antiques! It is a great piece, a working piece and should definitely belong to someone's loved and cherished collection!
