You are invited to bid on this early, hand made, antique gaff-riggedpond yacht. Note: this is NOTa reproduction. This boat comes from a Lake Winnipesaukee estate in central New Hampshire . The boat - probably from the mid-1920's- sports a complex gaff topsail cutter rig with staysail and club-footed jib. The wood hull appears to have been hollowed from horizontal lifts and has an applied light wood deck. The boat measures 31 ½" length overall, 24 ½" length on deck exclusive of the sprit, 7" beam and 38" from the bottom of the lead ballasted fin keel to the masthead (plus the topsail yard). The hull has all original finish including red keel and bottom paint, white topsides and traces of varnish on the deck. All paint shows significant dings, chips, cracks and losses consistent with an old boat that has been extensively sailed. As the photos demonstrate, the hull presents well and reflects its age. I recommend against refinishing.
The rigging includes twin shrouds anchored to brass chain plates, spreaders, wire bobstay to the bowsprit, 12 hooks, numerous bowsers, staysail halyards, adjustable peak and throat halyards on the gaff, brass diamond-shaped deck plates on the maststep and tiller fitting. The boat has adjustable self-steering off the main boom with a brass centering spring. Lines have been replaced - some original rotted line fragments are in the box. T is a chip out of the end of the bowsprit. Sails are linen or cotton and have overall staining and spots but no holes. The jib and topsail appearance suggest they may be older than the main and staysail. Spars are dark wood with double tapers and brass fittings and eyes. One topsail yard has a repaired crack. Boat includes an unusual field box / stand of laminated oak with brass hardware - probably later than the boat. The stand has a brass toggle that opens a hinged mechanism that gently cradles and clamps the keel (leathers replaced). The box has two hinged doors and measures 12" by 7" and is 10 ½" tall. The box has some very minor chips and dings. The box contains additional lines on looms, rotted line, sail fragments, additional rigging hooks and an additional rudder centering spring. If you are a collector of vintage pond yachts you know that examples of this quality are becoming difficult to find. If you want a hand-made pond yacht in good used condition - this may be your boat. Please send questions before bidding. The boat will be shipped in a carefully fitted carton with the rig down (detailed instructions for rigging are included). It will reach you intact. T is a $20.00 crating fee See Handling Cost below- no local pickup. Insurance is required. I ship exclusively via USPS Priority Air Mail. I reserve the right to refuse bids from those with limited or negative feedback. Note that this is a fairly large boat and I don't want to take a chance with overseas shipping - American shipping only - PayPal is strongly encouraged as it will allow me to get this boat into your hands within 3 days after the auction. Please check out my other auctions. Thanks for your time. I have had several email questions about the freight cost. I don't intend to make money on the packing, but I do want the item to be safe and to capture my costs for materials. I purchase a new shipping cartons and reinforce them with wood to prevent crushing. I use lots of bubble wrap and other packing. The $20.00 is a not-to-exceed amount and I will invoice what it actually costs - probably less. The figure quoted on the eBay freight calculator includes this $20.00, but, again, the cost will probably be less. Sorry for the confusion.
