Here is Grace Townsend in all her magnificent glory seated in a chair and dressed to perfection holding her fan in her hand. This is a wonderful portrait painted by William Thorne in 1910 (we will get to William Thorne in just a few minutes). But back to the painting spectacular in muted colors and done in the art nouveau era. It is in a magnificent frame which has elegant art nouveau details on the interior molding and at the center of each exterior edge. The frame is carved and gold gilded and there is a little bit of red gesso showing through the frame here and there. The oil painting itself has a little bit of paint flaking on the lower left from her hand down to the bottom of the painting and over to the right Ã,Â- it appears that it is just where the canvas was probably not so well prepared as the rest of it was. At the lower right of her dress (you can only see it from the back) there is a little patch Ã,Â- and it absolutely does not show on the front. On the back of the frame there is a little label of Phillip Suval Fine Arts from New York with a summer shop in South Hampton Long Island. This is a huge monumental painting the canvas size is 34 3/8Ã,Â" x 47 Ã,½Ã,Â" and overall in the frame it is 39 5/8Ã,Â" x 52 Ã,½Ã,Â". Through research I found the following information on William Throne - William Throne (1864-1956) was born in Delavan, WI. He studied in AcadÃf©mie Julian, Paris with J.P. Laurens, Constant, Lefebvre, and Doucet, 1889-90. He exhibited his paintings NAD, 1888-99 (medal, 1888); Paris Salon, 1890, 1891 (prize), 1893; PAFA Ann., 1894; Pan-Am. Expo, 1901 (medal); Corcoran Gal. Annuals, 1907-08. He was a member of the ANA in 1902, the NA in 1913 and the SAA in 1893. As you can see he was quite the impressive artist! Striving For Excellence It isnÃ,Â't brilliance or just getting the breaks, It is consistent attention to & honest respect for the Customer.
