This auction is for an Antique Pre-Civil War, Animal Hide Leather Covered Trunk with Brass Tacks and previous owner, from very long ago, personalized initials. Trunk has condition problems, so please view all photos and make your own judgement. The wooden runners were on the bottom of this trunk when we purchased it, and we think they were placed to protect the bottom. The brass piece w the lock is located reads: Patent. The paper liner is blue polka dots. We do not know who the maker is nor do we know how old it is. It appears that it was made in the early 19th C or earlier. Measures about 29.5 inches long, 12 inches high and 14 inch depth. Trunk is very sturdy and all of the iron hardware, such as handles, hinges, lock, are still secure and not falling off. T are tacks missing and loose leather. You can still see forged iron square nails around the trunk. We found this at a local antique mall several years ago. The dealer that we had purchased this trunk from, told us that the trunk came out of an old house in the Santee, SC area. The camera does not capture the real true colors.
