Amazing Primitive Folk Art Hooked Rug 25 by 38 1/2 inches This incredible, signed rug came to me from North Carolina and has its roots in the Eastern Coast of the United States It dates from the 1940's, at the latest, but could possibly have been created during the two generations prior to that as t were a succession of "Anns" in the family that previously owned this rug It is in wonderful, sturdy condition for its age.....the colors are rich and pure and t are no holes or worn spots This is one of the most unusual and charming examples of hooked folk art rugs that I have ever seen A blonde, a brunette, and a redhead...... Are the three enchanting little figures dolls? Or beloved little girls that the artist knew? I guess it is up to you to decide..... The rug has one repair (pictured) that, in my opinion, is barely noticable and only adds to its charm. T are three spots of missing wool on the little blond girls' pink dress (two of which are pictured), and one on the redhead's dress (very small and hardly noticable as the bordering wool covers it). T might be other tiny spots of missing green wool but these are not noticable enough to photograph. T are five fabric ribbons sewn across the top of the back....indicating that, at least at some point in time, this rug was hung on the wall. Please keep in mind that this is a vintage, handcrafted piece of American history. As with all primitives, it has been loved, enjoyed, and, most of all, used. What may be considered by some as "flaws" are what give primitive antiques their unequaled charm..... I originally purchased this rug and had it shipped to me in the Northwest with the intention of using it. Upon its arrival, I realized it had way more historically significant value than I had initially thought and that it deserves to be in the care of an educated collector.....not on the floor of a little girls room.... Please ask all questions before bidding. This is being sold as-is.
