This auction is for a very special antique print Caritas: Perfect Love by Abbott Thayer (European 18th Century) The term Charitas translates to Charity and is defined as "Selfless Love". Biblically this love is also known as Agape....a love whose source is God. This beautiful image of a woman (who appears to be an angel) standing in front of a large solid tree (representing God the source maybe?) and providing shelter for two small naked children. This the perfect symbolic picture of "Selfless Love". Some also see this special print as symbolically perfect for a mother's selfless love for her children. This print measures 16.5" x 8.5 " with margins and the image area (without title area) is 15.5" x 7.5". Print is in perfect condition. This is an antique print but it is not a chromolithograph print. This print is matted with a mink brown mat under glass. T is a special cutout in the mat below the image that has been added and which contains the words.... " Charity: Selfless Love" " And now abideth faith, hope, charity These Three; but the greatest of these is Charity". This print is framed in an antique frame of wood with gesso detail trim. This frame measures 21.5" x 11.5 Outside and 20" x 10" inside. Both frame and print are antique and the scripture was added to enhance the print when it was framed.
