Antique Qashghai - Quashquai rug Measurements: 48" x 80" About Qashghai Quashquai (different spellings) rugs: "QASHQAI rugs are woven by the Qashqai nomadic tribes of the Fars province in southwestern Iran. Their designs are bold, colorful and geometric. They include diamond and hexagonal medallions (usually connected vertically) and floral, animal and human motifs in an all-over layout. The rugs are mostly woven on horizontal looms with a wool foundation using the Turkish or symmetrical knot." We bought this rug in 2002. I am not a dealer, or very knowledgeable about rugs. The following description is the one we were furnished when we bought the rug. The age is an estimate - probably the 1940's: "This rug was obtained in a private estate sale in Medford Oregon. The original owner of this very rare rug was an avid collector of Persian carpets whose collection was well known in the Rogue Valley. The really unique characteristic about this rug is the grey background which makes this carpet very unusual. It has thick pile which will last for several generations." I have cleaned the rug several times over the years we owned it with cold water and a home rug cleaner.
