For your consideration is this very rare offering. � The Qing dynasty ran from 1644-1911. � This carving dates to around the time of the late 1800s. � Culturally, the Water Buffalo is very special in the Chinese culture. � Legend has it that the Chinese� philosophical� sage Laozi left China through the Han Gu Pass riding a Water Buffalo. � Water buffalo are significant of being industrious and patient, and the Water Buffalo is the second animal Chinese Zodiac. � Rare old Water Buffalo antiques are fetching extraordinary sums at local auction houses, such as the Jade Water Buffalo that sold at auction for� £4.2 million pounds. � Such carvings are not easy to find, and do not last in the market place.
Please note this is an original carving from the Qing Dynasty. � There are many reproductions in the market place of similar, inferiorly carved pieces. � This carving is the grandmaster, all original, and the carving is as intricate as you will find; this is not a reproduction. � The carving measures 25 inches (63 cm) long. � It is *gigantic*, and is a detailed masterpiece worthy of a museum reception. � Complete with its original Ironwood base, specifically carved to fit the shape of this horned beast. � Three� Asian� figures are riding the Water Buffalo, dressed in traditional Chinese robes. � This piece is masterly detailed down the the hairs and grain of the skin.
As this carving is over a century old, it does show some signs of age. � The left horn has been repaired, there is also a natural stress crack, not so noticeable, that has been previously repaired infront of the first boy. � Overall this piece is in excellent condition and displays wonderfully, and wear related to age is unavoidable. � A fresh estate find, new to the market. � A grand addition to any professional collector, should not last. � Thank you.
