For those of you who have been following my auctions you know that I have the task of cleaning out my New Hampshire home of so many years w generations of things have been able to be stored as space has not been as issue and the thought of leaving was never a thought. Older now and have had some medical problems so my family has decided that I need an easier life and wants to not have to deal with the sorting. To keep me occupied & out of trouble they have started me on ebay. To keep from getting bogged down I am going from room to room out houses to attics so you never know what I will uncover from day to day. If you would like to join me on my journey of uncovering and discovering please keep watch.

THIS AUCTION IS FOR ON OLD OIL LAMP WITH RED GLASS TO ALERT THE TRAIN OF A PROBLEM ON THE TRACK

I have been as you can imagine with ebay seeing the local postmaster on a daily basis. I have told him of my memories of the train when I was a child and he looks at me as though I were an antique myself...maybe I am. I remember the post office was also the train station..the gas station..the real estate office...and general store ...and town meeting place T was a pickle barrel and a cracker barrel with a wood stove that you could warm yourself by.The train wouldn't stop unless t was a red flag hung on the side of he building...no red flag and the train would slow down and throw the mail sack onto the platform and a man on the train would hook the sack that was hung on the side of the building and take it into the train. It was a great amusement to all of us as children. In winter when storms would come t were times that trees would fall on the tracks. At night if you knew it was bad out you could walk the tracks with grown ups and see if the train which was the lifeline was in peril. An oil lamp with a red light would let the train know to slow or stop.

This is an oil lamp with a red glass.Really red to warn the train. Guess nobody walks the tracks in storms today. But oh what children are missing. It is all t Ready. I believe it will still hold the oil. The wick still works. The glass is perfect. The clip on the back allows it to be hooked onto a board to make it higher & more visable. If you still walk the rails in storms or remember when you did this will either be a great memory or a useful item. Let me know if you have any questions.
