Here's an impressive piece of early redware up for bids without reserve! Found in a barn with a thick layer of oil and dirt on it inside and out, this very rugged piece of pottery dates back to the mid 19th Century and is in very good condition. We usually sell our items in as-found condition but the beauty of this pot was completely covered with grime and we decided to clean it up. It has a bulbous shape with a wide opening and two handles that have never been broken. It's coated in lead glaze inside as well as the outside and is a wonderful shade of green with dark orange (almost brown) mottling all over. There are also a couple of areas with different shades of green that appear to have been whimsically applied. This piece shows plenty of age and wear with scratches and nicks in the glaze and minor chipping here and there. The bottom still has the generations of dirt and calcuim deposits from sitting on the ground floor in the barn. This is a substantial piece of redware pottery with a thick opening rim and plenty of girth. It weighs just about 8 pounds and stands 12 inches tall. The opening has a 5 3/4 inch diameter while the bottom measures 5 inches across. Handle to handle, this pot is 11 inches wide. There are no cracks or hairlines.
