Lovely Antique Redwork Embroidered Alphabet Quilt Red sashing on white muslin, loose cotton batting A lovely turn of the century quilt, hand embroideredalphabet and figural penny blocks pieced with turkey red sashing. It is hand quilted, has thin loose cotton batting, and is bordered and backed with off white cotton muslin. At 75 by 65 inches, it is the right size for a childâe(tm)s twin or three-quarter sized bed. In used but nice condition, this has no holes, tears or loose seams. The quilting is slightly uneven, about 5 stitches to the inch, done in white thread so it contrasts well on the red sashing. Wear is even. T is no bleeding on the front of the quilt. On the back a few areas have slight bleeding from the sashing. T is no bleeding from the embroidery but some of the knotted ends of the floss show through the white blocks. The authenticity of the loose cotton batting can be seen in the picture of the edge of the quilt as I backlit it with sunlight. T is some storage dirt and some minor spots, the worst shown in the photo with the pig block below.
