ITEM DESCRIPTION:Antique c1870 Renaissance Revival Marble Top ROSEWOOD TABLE This is a very fine quality small round table ... what the French would call a gueridon. It was made c1870 of very fine quality rosewood (made well before the export of rosewood was banned in many countries). It has a dark grey (almost black) marble top. This lovely table was made in the Renaissance Revival style ... a late Victorian style that was the first period in which fine design and materials was used for mass produced furnishings. This was when America saw the birth of fine craftsman in places like Midwestern crafts shops and factories (like Grand Rapids) and in upstate New York (w the arts & crafts movement started 20 years later). Renaissance revival furniture was based on strong ornate motifs with cartouches, medallions, caryatids, scroll work, pediments, balusters, etc. This magnificent table is a masterpiece of Renaissance Revival style ... it is ornate and yet its proportions give it a delicacy so it does not overwhelm its surroundings. The rosewood has a beautiful swirling graining that is characteristic of this rare wood and a beautiful rich patina, with its original finish. It is of heirloom quality and is sure to be a welcome addition to any decor. Tables like this are getting harder and harder to find -- don't miss this one! Please any of the photos to examine items in detail . Age (ca.) c1870-1890 Dimensions It measures 15" in diameter and is 30" high. Condition Good estate condition. Original finish. No damage and no repairs that we could see. The marble has no chips. All our items are used or antique and, as such, have the normal amount of wear and tear that's commensurate with their age. **FREE**Shipping We are always looking for ways to save our customers money and we are happy to be able to offer FREE SHIPPING on this piece via Greyhound Package Express.
