Rigi, Edwardian tourist item Label: carved ‘Rici-Kulm’ on lid Era: 1900 - 1920 Designer: unknown; likely a tourist shop item from the Rigi-Kulm Hotel Historic Significance: Mt. Rigi is the tallest of the Swiss Alps, just outside of Luzern. The summit is Rici-Kulm, where there has been a luxury hotel for almost 200 years. This is a handmade souvenir. Color: brown Composition: walnut with brass hinges Construction: handcarved and assembled Identifying Details: type of hinge, style of carving Unique Features: features the old-fashioned spelling of Rigi-Kulm, Rici-Kulm Condition Report: VERY GOOD : usable with some flaws; in this case, hinges are each missing one tiny nail, though it does not impact their use. Shows light surface wear and wood has darkened over time Measurements: Length 3.2” Width 2.5” Height 1”
