Very Fine Oak Roll Top Desk The Perfect Vintage Touch for Home or Office! Great Christmas Gift for a Professional For sale is my antique oak roll top desk which I have owned for about 20 years. It has a sticker from the Grand Rapids Furniture Company out of Michigan. *Please be advised that I am not an antique dealer but only a lover of antiques. I will try to describe the desk as best as I can but don't know alot about antiques. When I first received the desk it was in good condition but needed to be refinished. I took it to a professional antique refinisher and it turned out beautiful as you can see by the pictures!! I did not know anything about the desk and when the man returned the desk he said he did some research on it and found that these particular desks were made for the Union Pacific Railroad and t were two sizes one being a larger supervisor desk which is the one I have. The measurements of this charming and useful desk (approximate) are: 32" inches deep x 51" inches tall x 54" inches wide I have been told that it is either an "S" curve or waterfall design and was manufactured around the 1920's or 30's. It also comes with dated file folders from 1903 ( I assume are original to the desk). The desk has a warm and satiny finish, a depth of color and grain that show quality. The grain of the desk positively glows in the warm afternoon sunlight. It has plenty of cubbies and pigeonholes, plenty of drawers and mail slots within. The raised panel desk also contains a "modesty panel" between the banks. T are writing desk on both sides for more room. T is a key and the rolltop locks but when I moved I did not set the strike plate for the bottom drawers and am not sure if it still works or not. It also comes with the chair shown but is missing one roller. I will try to find a replacement. ** is the best part of the desk.....the SECRET COMPARTMENT!!! When I first tried to open it I could not figure it out but the bottom right bank pulls out and then slides on on a groove to open up more areas for storage. I think it is very unique and so far it is the only one I have come across. Whether you have always had a hankering for a rolltop for home or office..perhaps your grandfather had one and you have fond memories..or perhaps you are a busy professional who dislikes the cold clinical feel of today's office furniture..then this jewel of a desk is for you! Wver you place it..den or office, reception room or parlor, it is sure to be a conversation piece and a family heirloom. Best of luck in winning a joy of a rolltop desk.
