Up for auction is a beautiful antique hand sewn applique quilt in the Rose of Sharon pattern from the late 1800's. This quilt has 9 full blossoms surrounded by 25 individual blossoms. The blossoms are made up of a green calico with red roses. The color of the applique is consistent throughout. The binding is the same green calico as the leaves and stems. The binding is hand sewn and is in excellent condition. The applique stitching is made up of very close tiny stitches. There is hand quilting inside the applique as well. The hand quilting is very nicely done with small straight stitches at 8 to 9 stitches per inch. There are 14 very small, very light spots on the front all less than 1/4" and many of those are pinhead size. On one edge there is a small area of discoloration and a darker smudge nearby (pictured). If examined in front of a light there is some age discoloration at the stitching. It is not visible unless seen through the light. The backing is the same muslin as the front and there are approximately 6 to 7 light spots. The cotton batting is very thin and appears to have shifted slightly in a few areas. The quilt measures a very large 81" by 92". ! *Some quilts that I sell, I have cleaned using a non-chlorine detergent or cleaned in such a way to not affect the overall integrity of the piece. I will disclose whether I have cleaned the item or not. **All of my listings for items that are fabric have been checked for stains, tears, wear, etc. keeping in mind that most of these pieces are old. I have tried to describe any issues to the best of my ability. What may seem insignificant to me may be of utmost importance to you so please ask questions! I try to respond in a timely manner.
