Antique Russian Icon 19th Century, St. Nicholas the WonderworkerExecuted on a gilded ground with beautifully decorated borders, here St. Nicholas is depicted in an ornately decorated chasuble. He is shown delivering a blessing and holding an open Gospel book. Above at left is Christ presenting the Gospels to St. Nicholas and on the right, the Mother of God or the Theotokos presents him with the omophorion - bishop's stole.This variant of the St. Nicholas icon is sometimes humorously called "Summer St. Nicholas" because he is shown bareheaded, as opposed to the other variant called "Winter St. Nicholas" with the mitre.Size: 10 1/2" x 9"27cm x 22.5cmThanks for checking it out!
