This is an exquisite antique Russian Sterling Silver Bowl/Basket. The size and workmanship make it truly unique. This large basket is beautifully shaped and wonderfully engraved both inside and out. The interior engraving depicts an Ancient Egyptian scene complete with royalty and a serpent. The exterior also has some wonderful Egyptian engraved scenes on each end with some decorative reed and hashmark designs on the center and lower ends. T are some wonderfully incorporated cut-outs in the front and back as well as in the base or pedestal. The handles are solid and regal and each end in two beautiful silver balls. It measures a full 12 and 1/2 inches (31 cm) across from one handle to another and stands over eight inches high (20 cm) to the top of the handle. The piece has a solid weigh of 780 grams. It has both a hallmark and an assayers mark. The Moscow "head" appears in the mark -- although it is difficult to photograph clearly. A clea zigzag mark appears on both sides on the bottom of the basket. The marks suggest to me that this piece was created in the early 1900's. The initials "NC" also appear marked into the bottom basket -- which from the Cyrillic alphabet translate into the letters "IS". This peice is in remarkable condition -- but is in need of a good polishing. Buyer to pay shipping and optional (but recommended) insurance read more
