The Carmelite Sister of Ayacucho, Peru have all decided to part with the last remaining antique Milagros in order to finish funding the repairs to their convent roof. The entire roof has needed to be replaced and they are also adding a new wing to their convent in order to better serve the Poor of Ayacucho, Peru(please see the pictures below). Ayacucho is the poorest of all of Peru 's Provinces and the convent relies on these auctions for 80% of their funding for all these projects.

All of the Milagros we will be auctioning date back more than 100 years and are of the hand made kind, using sterling quality silver, as was the custom during the period. These are not silver platted bronze Milagros. These pieces are rare because they have not been sold to a silversmith to be melted down for the silver value, as most already have. The Milagros were to be part of a Convent Museum, but the sisters feel that helping the poor is more important than a museum in their little town, so they are all on consignment for auction!

A Milagro is a votive offering in recognition that God, Jesus, or a Saint has caused a petitioner's prayers to be granted. These Milagros represent an actual Miracle that was granted. The Milagro is left discreetly and ananimousely on the Alter were the person first asked for the Miracle. In Peru it is a human form of saying Thank You, to God.

The one you are bidding on is over 100 years old and weighs 18.3 grams of solid silver. It size is 2.5 inches by 2 inches.
