You are viewing a rare example of salt-glazed redware in this antique ca. mid – early 19 th century crock with cobalt blue decoration. The interior is glazed with dark brown Albany slip. The crock has two incised bands near the collar and one near the base. It was fashioned on a potter’s wheel, which is evident from the striations on the base from being cut off the wheel with a wire tool. The crock is in good condition with three chips to the collar and a very faint, thin hairline that runs through one of the chips and only extends approximately 1 ½” down the body. It is stamped with a “1” near the collar (see pictures). The crock stands approximately 10” tall and measures approximately 6 ½” in diameter. It weighs approximately 5 lbs. 3 oz.
