We are pleased to offer at auction an antique SANTA CLAUS Advertising pinback button. It advertises SAMUEL HYDE CO which was located in Fall River Massachusetts from the mid 1800s to at least 1915. The button is 1 1/4" in diameter. It is Circa 1900. It has the paper backing inside that tells us it was made by Bastian Bros in Rochester, NY. The Union Bug is also present and mentions the LIP & BA union which was the Lithographers International Protective and Beneficial Association. This union was formed in 1883 and held that name until its merger with other groups in 1915 to form the Amalgamated Lithographers of America (ALA)...so this narrows the date of the creation of this pinback to between 1883 and 1915 when the name was changed. As for the "Samuel Hyde Co." my research indicated that it was an "importer of Wholesale Liquors and Dealers in Fancy Groceries" so "The Tap" on the button makes sense. Great graphics...note the old telephone...! Button is in great condition and a very rare one indeed!
