Antique Sapphire Cobalt Carnival Tulip Fine Rib Vase 10" - Fenton Up for auction is an absolutely magnificent antique Fenton Sapphire CobaltCarnival Tulip Fine Rib Vase/Swung - c. early 1900s . The vase shows a spectrum of colors when hit by light -- very high iridescence. ( See PHOTOS ) The colors look like a peacock feather! Two ribbed panels fit into each section of the three-mold vase. The interior is not patterned. There is no mark or stamp. The piece is in Excellent vintage condition - No chips, cracks, flea bites or repairs. The glass bottom rim does have some rough places (due to the molding of the glass) and there are a few flaws in the glass. This is part of the glass making process. ( See PHOTOS ) It measures approximately 10" tall (at highest point) and 2 3/4" across the base . (The vase belonged to my mother and stayed in the china cabinet up until recently.) Background : Fenton's Fine Rib Pattern #1126 first appeared in Butler Brothers' Ads from 1918, through 1927, to include examples in red, to supply the public's fascination with ever more iridized carnival glass. This long-lived pattern can be found the following colors: amethyst, amethyst opal, green, blue, marigold, celeste, lime, lavender, moonstone, sapphire , vaseline opal (which is rare), aqua, aqua opal, along with amber.
