Antique wooden 16" German Schoenhut doll with moveable joints (all in working order). The back is marked 'Schoenhut Doll pat. Jan 17,1911 USA'. He has a lovely painted face. His upper lids are lightly incised and he has thin, light brown multi-stroke brows. His eyes have a light red dot in the corners. I believe he is a model #403 (16/403), but am not absolutely certain. I have had several dealers & collectors look at him. Some, not all, believe his face was 'artfully retouched/repainted' probably in the 1940's....but regardless, think it was an absolutely wonderful job. All agreed that his body had not been retouched/repainted. His mohair wig is original and he has the 2 holes in the bottom of each foot. His expression is precious. He has been in our family since the early 1960s. We always called him The Little Prince, but I am not sure that is an actual model name. Although he has some wear (his toes have a few dings...please view all photos), he is absolutely charming. I try very hard to give accurate descriptions. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
