ANTIQUE SETH THOMAS TWO COLUMN ADAMANTINE MANTEL / SHELF CLOCK This is wonderful old Seth Thomas temple style case clock. Seth Thomas is well known for their "Adamantine" black mantel clocks, which were made starting in 1882. The front adamantine finish has a lovely scroll detailing, which trims the front casing. The top and the trim above and below the columns are a faux marbling design as is the top piece. The top and bottom of each column, the four feet, and the lion's heads (one each side) are an intricately designed, scrolling gilt metal. The dial face has 2 key holes (time and chime). On the clock face in the white area of the 7, 6 & 5 is written: "Made by Seth Thomas Clock Co. Thomaston Conn. USA " The brass colored door to the movement is stamped with the ST logo/marking. Engravings on the movement also indicate it is original Seth Thomas. Movement is stamped: " ST Made in USA ". It is also stamped with the number " 4 1/2 ". Comes with key and pendulum but, I have no idea if these are original. No markings, except on pendulum t is an adjustable brass screw with S and F on each side (slower and faster). The back of the case has the number 4 engraved on the right bottom. The Dimensions: 12 ½" width at widest section ~ Feet Generally it is: 11"L X 6" W X 11 ½" H Overall the condition is good with normal wear signs for age. The exception is the faux marble top that is much worn. Please see photo. The clock face also has what looks to be a "B" on the number 8 and a "t" on the number 4.
