You are bidding on a very nice Seth Thomas round top mantle clock manufactured by the Seth Thomas Clock Co. shortly after the Civil War. This model rarely comes up for sale, and is in very nice shape given its age. The case is mahogany veneer with rounded top bent using the old grooved method. The original label is 99% present and in tact inside the door as you can see it the photos The bezel has been polished back to it's original sheen and has been coated to prevent tarnish. The face of the clock is the original painted face. T is some paint loss, but it is in very nice shape given the age. Most of these painted dials have long since been replaced with paper dials, but this one remains in tact. The clock is 12" high, 9" wide and 4" deep. The simple classic line of the clock and the smaller size make it ideal for display in any setting. The movement is the lyre shaped movement used in many of the Seth Thomas mantle clocks of that era. This movement has been ultrasonically cleaned in proper solution,and pivot holes inspected for wear. The movement was lubricated with a fine clock oil and put into proper beat. The result is a movement that runs nearly as strongly and accurately as the day it was made. The strike function will need same attention.
