Absolutely Divine Antique SEVRES Hand Painted Porcelain Lamp with Ormolu, String Shade. This Sevres hand-decorated porcelain lamp has four cartouches with portraits of aristocrats in the court of Louis XVI. There are two portraits of the Grand Dauphin, who died before he could become king, and two of Louis's mistresses - Madame Montespan and Madame de Maintenon. The portraits are signed with the name of the person depicted in each one and the large portrait of the Grand Dauphin is also signed by the artist but is indistinct and hard see (see photo 7). The ornate ormolu base, middle and top pieces finish the lamp in a style that perfectly compliments the porcelain body. The detail in the portraits is unbelieveable. Most of it looks to be transfer, but there are lots of hand-painted embellishments too - in the pearls they ALL wear (not just the ladies!), the embossed gold filagree around the portrait ovals and the details in the features, hair and clothing. This lamp is completely over the top! The string shade is totally Park Avenue 1950's, with an ecru string shade, complete with a french blue velvet ribbon interwoven through the string. The shade is very heavy and is in perfect condition. The porcelain part of the lamp measures 11"; the lamp & shade stands a stately 34" from the finial to the base.
