I am always interested in antique sewing tools. Most women in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries were adept in the needlework arts in a way that women of today can hardly imagine. And so it is sometimes difficult to recognize the 'tools of their trade'. are ten items that would have been in most sewing boxes during this period.The pin cushion is dated 1913. It has a red velvet centre with blue and white glass beads. The perimeter of the heart-shaped cushion is decorated with clear beads. It is 4 inches wide and about 4 inches long. T are some beads missing from around the lower edging beads but everything is still secure (it appears to have been mended). The scissors are German and beautifully decorated on the handles. They are probably chrome. They are in good condition. The tatting shuttle (2 1/4 inches long) and thimble are probably french ivory.
