VERY RARE Antique Sextant Gustav Heyde Dresden Ca. 1900 Up for auction is what was, in my opinion, the pride of the catch from the estate of a recently deceased WWII Army veteran who served in Europe and brought back quite a few German antiques dating from the late Victorian era to the mid-2nd quarter of the 20th Century.� And among the fine clocks, bronze lamps, and Nazi memorabilia was this gem, an antique sextant with a radius of 6 or 7 inches (15-17.8 cm) - we're not sure from which to exact points to calculate this.� A little research revealed that Gustav Heyde of Dresden was active in the construction of scientific and nautical optics and surveying equipment in the late 19th century.� This example suffered two breaks on the eyeglass bar at some point and was repaired by the previous owner, the aforementioned WWII veteran.� We have shown these two repairs in the photos below.� I would have to believe this would limit the sextant's usefulness as a carefully calibrated scientific tool, though I would have to think such older antique examples are rightfully better off in a display case.� Not sure what else we can say about this sextant other than it is truly a beautiful piece of history.� We do not know sextants, and unlike other areas where we possess considerable knowledge (e.g., antique arms and armor, tribal antiques, etc.), we do not necessarily go in search of old scientific or nautical instruments, but we know enough about them to pick them up when possible.� Hopefully, are good fortune is your gain.Ask all questions prior to bidding, as all sales are final.� Must be 18 to bid, and by bidding, you are agreeing that you are of legal age to purchase this item.� International bidders PLEASE check first for a shipping quote.� Good luck and !
