ANTIQUE SHEFFIELD BRASS PLATED BRACE WITH BIT COLLECTIONHere is a brace that reached the height of perfection during the 1800's in Sheffield England. It is a design that started without the brass plates during the late 1700's and early in the 1800's adapted the brass plates for strength and looks. It is a stunning brace with a fine beech wood body and a lignum vitae turned head. And of course all the brass - WOW! The chuck has a brass button to release the spring catch for the notched tang of the drill bits. The maker name - SLATER, is above the button and location - SHEFFIELD is under this makers name. In perfect working condition the spring is strong. The brass plates have a dull shine natural patina with all the original screws. The lignum head spins smoothly with no wobble. The head has a brass disc with spanner holes to remove and access the guts to adjust the tightness of the head. With this brace comes a collection of various antique bits that is used with this type of brace. All are in usable, sharp condition and fit this brace. A fine collectible brace from the middle of the 1800's and in good usable condition. But this is a historical tool and should be put into a fine antique tool collection to preserve it for future generations.INSURANCE IS INCLUDED IN SHIPPING QUOTEAFTER THE SALE PLEASE CONTACT ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS read more
