This is an old Chinese hand painted scroll I got from the family of a woman who was a missionary in China in the thirties. She returned to the United States in the forties and brought all of her treasures with her. This scroll is one of my favorites even though the edges of the scroll is tattered in places and there is a 1 to 2 inch split at the top. It is not in the picture and that is where the beauty lies. It depicts a bird that is so graceful and branches that are painted so masterfully. It is signed and to tell you the truth I would love to know what this particular scroll says. There is some spots of discoloration or staining as I have pictured. I really feel that this is a wonderful scroll with much beauty left and it could be mounted on a new background with weights as there are no weights on the piece. it could also be framed if desired. to be sure, the amount of age or wear does not take much away from the scroll.I have many scrolls and I am selling a few of them because I had to borrow the money to buy them. I need to sell a few to pay the money back and another bill so my debt is your gain.
