Hi there welcome to my auction. Please read before bidding, Thankyou ( To help you feel confident in your choice, look back at my feedback as to my honesty & integrity as a seller of these antique pocket watches), thanks **For auction today is this Antique, Large heavy Gents Solid Silver, English Full Plate Lever Pocket watch, with an antique solid silver albert chain & antique solid silver double sided uninscribed fob medal, sold altogether with a period, clip type, brass & steel winding key, size number 9. This is a superb fully functioning and working Victorian pocket watch dated 1901. I must stress please enlarge, zoom in & take a good look at my photo's as they're a large part of my description, thanks Description: The pocket watch is working and ticks away lovely, ( I wound it yesterday and it was still running when i took these photos today,has been oiled, cleaned & serviced & it runs strongly ) It is hallmarked with the lion passant for 0.925 sterling silver, the 3 wheatsheafs for Chester, the letter "A" for 1901 and the makers initials T. P. H. for Thomas Peter Hewett, he was Managing Director of The Lancashire Watch Company so this is probably who made the movement too. All the hinges are strong & working correctly, when you press the top button down the back comes open to 90 degrees, this is a super heavy gauge case with the engine turning is super condition too hardly any wear, it also has an empty cartouche on the back too. The movement is a clean top quality movement & keeps good time for its age, it has a compensating balance & ruby endstone on the lovely swirled fern designed balance cock. The dial is in super clean condition with no chips or hairline cracks, the Thick glass bevelled crystal is clean with just hardly noticable faint scratch, great for its age probably the original. It has super clean gold minute & hour hands & blued steel second hand The movement is not signed but as stated above was probably made by The Lancashire Watch Company as this is one of the same type of movement that was made by them for a number of other different Company's including J G Graves. They were a very well renowned Watchmaking Company of their time. The pocket watch measures approx 54mm diameter excluding crown and weighs a heavy 141.6 grams The albert chain is all original, its hallmarked on the T/Bar, the dog clip and on every link of the chain with the lion passant. It also has on the tbar dog clip & the centre link E.W & S for E Whitehouse & Sons, Vyse Street,Birmingham. It has the date letter "z" for 1899 on the tbar clip & joining link from chain to tbar, it also has the anchor for Birmingham on this joining link. Its a superb all original solid large linked chain weighing approx 44.5 grams & measuring 12inches (300mm) from dog clip to t/bar + another 3 and 3/4 inches (95mm) that extends out from the t/bar and has the fob medal attached, altogether approx 15 & 3/4 inches (395mm), which leads me nicely to the third part l; This fob medal is a superb double sided with Gold shield on one side & Silver shield on the other,has fancy scroll work & a crown at the top, neither shield has any engraving on them, Its hallmarked with the lion passant, for 0.925 sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, the letter "z" for the year 1899 same as the chain. The makers initials W.H.H for William Hair Haseler, Richmond Street, then Vyse street & Hylton Street, all Birmingham The fob medal as mentioned is not engraved on the front shield or on the back shield with any names or initials so can be personalised if wished & it measures 43mm high & 26mm accross its widest part in superb clean condition **************** ****** Overall this is a superb large Gents Working antique English Lever pocket watch, solid silver albert chain & fob medal weghing altogether a heavy 186.1grams approx,measuring 54mm without stem & bow ****** This set would grace any collection a wonderful set for over 110 years... read more
