ANTIQUE SILVER CUT GLASS BEER STEIN PITCHER This auction is for a beautiful antique leaded cut glass beer or wine tankard with silver plate handle, rim, top, and spout. This may be considered a pouring or serving pitcher with a hinged lid. The glass has a criss cross cut on the body and large flutes at the bulbous base. On the bottom is a star cut. The silver looks great. The handle is in the shape of a grape vine with leaves and grapes hanging off of it. The wine grapes and leaves are also around the top area. The spout is of Baucus. Bacchus was the Roman God of wine. The lid or cover is domed shaped with a barrel finiale. The thumblift is of a monk or gnome which is drinking from a beer mug or beaker. This may even be the Munich child on the thumblift. This stein stands a little over 12 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter at the body. It is probably designed to hold about 1.5 liters of liquid. I believe this to be English origin based on the silver mark located near the handle (see picture). This tankard is in excellent condition. There is absolutely no damage to the glass; no chips, cracks, flakes, or repairs. The inside is nice and clean with no staining. The silver plate is perfect with no wear at all. One small spot on the inside top where the lid comes down on the base. Can only be seen when the lid is opened. Please email me if you have questions. There is no reserve, so bid to buy.
