A dear elderly friend, age 79, has asked me to sell these lovely old demitasse spoons for her. She was sent to the US from Germany via England when she was twelve years old in order to be protected from the war (her father was Jewish). Her parents joined her in the US when they were able to come. I want to be very careful that I market these spoons properly so I to help her raise funds for her retirement. I have looked on the web and have seen some similar spoons from the 1930's, but these little spoons of hers are clearly older, handmade by an artisan and I believe they are 19th century. I think the others I have seen for sale are later, manufactured copies of these. The ten spoons are 4" long with almond shaped bowls. They are finely detailed on front and back and are very artistic and sensitive to the grace of the flowers. They are "pocked" and t from the molten pour of the silver. The bowls are quite thin. T is lovely detail in the flowers on both the front and the reverse. T is a stamp in the bowl near the shaft that is "HH" and also a sword/dagger. I have done my best with the photos. A kind Dutch ebay member has confirmed them to be Dutch with the following note: "Your small spoons are Dutch. They are were used for tea and coffee cups. They are made by the firm Hooykaas in the small silver city of Schoonhoven not far from Rotterdam. read more
