ANTIQUE SILVER PLATE CHATELAINE. As can beseen in the Pictures here we have a very beautiful example of an “Antique Chatelaine” Chatelaines have been around for a very long time but were worn especially by Housekeepers during the 19 th Century. A decorative clip was attached to the waistband with three to seven chains from which was suspended various useful items which might include, keys, perfume bottles, purses trinkets, scissors, watch etc. Apart from the usual purpose of organizing the household they also became a fashionable accessory given as a wedding present from a husband to his bride. The Chatelaine here includes:- A LOVELY HEAVILY EMBOSSED PENCIL AIDE de MEMOIRE MIRROR PIN HOLDER HOLDER FOR SCISSORS The mirror appears to have been a piece of silvered celluloid, but now worn away.
