Up for auction is this great piece of San Francisco history... It is a loving cup/trophy display piece that was used in the old Albert S. Samuels Jewelry store on Market Street... Reads on front ALBERT S. SAMUELS TROPHY... The store opened in 1910 and is famous for the large 20 foot clock that was built and installed in 1915... see photo... it is a famous landmark in San Francisco... I bought this piece from a lady recently and she said that it had belonged to her aunt that lived in San Francisco all her life and that she had accquired it when Samuels Jewelers moved across the street to their new location in 1941 as they sold many things off in the move... She was told that it was a display piece that was used in their silver/silver plate shop to promote trophys that could be purchased and engraved... It is a very nice piece... It stands 12" tall and is 11 1/2" from handle to handle... Is oval in shape... Really nice weight to it... Made by the Essex Silver plate Co. and has the # E 11-12 on bottom, see photo... Has some scratches on the "S" and "A" in Samuels, see photos... Few very minor scratches and one very minor indentation that hardly photographs and I really only mention it to be accurate... Shows very, very well... It's on the front below the last "S" in Samuels... I believe that it would polish up beautifully if someone so desired, but I think it looks great as is... Beautiful detailed leaf design on top and bottom of piece... This would make a great addition to any San Francisco memoribilia collection or any collection of trophys or loving cups...
