Item Title Antique Silver Plate Victorian Quart Tankard or 2 Handled Loving Item Description: This is a good quality Victorian antique Silver Plate Quart Tankard or 2 Handled Loving Cup. It is in good original condition. It stands on a stepped foot and to attached handles each with a thumb plate to the top. The baluster shape had a band around the centre with a rim to the top edge, the base is weighted with a inset of lead to give it stability. This style and type of tankard in half pints and one pints was very popular and in regular use in public houses through the late Victoria Period and well into the 20th Century. This quart size with the two handles was reputed to have been used for the Hunt when it would be filled with ale and passed around the riders before the start of the hunt. Having to the two handles made it easy to pass from one rider to the other without spillage. The condition is good with a small amount of wear to the plate as you would expect for it's age, but there are no major dents or damage that I can see and most important the handles are still firmly attached. It carries impressed stamps for the VR Imperial mark , QUART and another that I find hard to read but was probably the landlords. Stamps to the base with the makers mark Oldham Nottingham This genuine antique Victorian period piece would look displayed read more
