This antique silver plate soup tureen was made by Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co. of Wallingford, Conn. circa 1900. I would think this may have been used for a cream soup given the cow's heads at the handles. They have wonderful detail as do the handles and feet. The tureen measures 10" wide x 6 1/2" deep excluding the handles, 8 1/2" tall including the handle at top. T is a hole for a ladle in the lid. Manufacturer'e marks as shown. This piece is in very good condition with no wear to the plating, minor surface wear/scratches. Great piece. Description Item Specifics - Decorative Arts Type: Boxes Age: 1850-1899 Primary Material: Ceramic, Porcelain Original/Repro: --This lovely antique Capodimonte box is decorated with raised cherubs on all sides. The shape of the box is lovely and unusual. T are columns at the 4 corners with floral swags and doves. The front, back and top are covered with cherubs frolicking, playing instruments and telling secrets. The interior is painted with flowers. All the hand painting on this piece is very well done. The box is trimmed in gilt brass at the lid opening as well as at the base. The base is marked with a blue underglaze crown over 'N' as shown. This piece is in very good condition. T is a firing flaw at the lower edge in front. On the bottom t is a flat chip at one corner partially under the trim. It is only on the bottom and does not show with the box upright.
