For consideration in this auction is a really FABULOUS ewer or pitcher from an elderly person's estate. Research from the hallmarks on the bottom indicate that it was made by Martin Hall & Co. between 1859-60. It is very heavy silverplate, it looks like sterling silver it is so nice and in nice condition. The design is very ornate with voluminous bunches of grapes and the fine detail and superb craftsmanship is better than anything I have seen. It has a blank oval under the spout w something could be engraved if so desired. T are 3 very small shallow dents, the base is a tiny bit out of plumb, and t is a small pc of something that rattles up inside the handle if you turn it upside down. None of this detracts from the beauty and functionality of this gorgeous antique. It is really stunning and would be a perfect addition to a special wedding or anniversary occassion to pour the first glass of wine. It is polished and clean and ready to sparkle on your table or in your china cabinet! Careful packing and shipping is $12. within the US. Thanks for looking!
The pitcher is 13" tall from the bottom to the top of the bunch of grapes on the lid. I have added a picture of the front w the blank oval is , the inside of the blank oval is about 2 " by 3" . The markings on the bottom are "5363 " and a crown shape in the middle with M.H.&Co. inside of it, with a P above that , and moving clockwise S, G, G inside of 4 shield shapes surrounding the M.H. &Co., although the Gs might just be squiggle marks, I'm not sure.
