This 4 bladed speculum measures 6 1/2 inches long and is silver plated.Probably plated brass.It has two large fenestrated blades top and bottom, and two small side blades.Had a busy life and the plating has rubbed off on the outside in places.The most interesting aspect is the inscription etched in the top, G.G.G. from J.T.S. May 16th 1873. ( Photo 3 ).Not the most obvious choice of a birthday present I would have thought.All in working order,silver plate tarnished, an unusual instrument forcollectors.
