You are viewing an exquisite early six slice silverplate toast rack from England. This little gem was made by the king of British cutlery: "Joseph Rodgers & Sons" out of Sheffield. Do not be confused with WM Rodgers, Rodgers Bros, or F.B. Rodgers . . . this prize is an original Joseph that dates back to the 1880's. This vintage tableware jewelry sports the company hallmark which is described as the "star & cross" and was used from 1871-1900. Joseph has established a reputation as the best knife / knives maker known to Europe and their very early pieces were marked "cutlers to the majesties" as they were chosen by the royal families as the finest producers of silverware. This metalware bread caddy is done in a magnificent silver plate that is polished to a mirror like shine . . . stunning. The base showcases a stylized scallop resting above four descending feet. The figure combines design elements inspired by early empires with elements influenced by the emerging Modern design revolution in one magnificent piece of work. T is a spectacular architectural and sculptural appeal. Think of the Guggenheim Museum sporting its repetition of elliptical forms. If you can think outside of the box you will discover a variety of great uses for this treasure: a desk top document file, a mail butler on the hall tree, a recipe catalog, and more . . . home or office . . . it all works.
