You are bidding on an Antique Slingerland Kick Bass Drum Hawaii Head. This amazing antique kick drum is a made in the USA Slingerland, which looks to date to the 1940’s or tabouts. The drum measures 26” in diameter (across the head) and 16 ½” front to back. The drum has some cool features, including an old front head that was painted long ago with a sort of Hawaiian island theme and signed by the artist “Ron Birns”. The rear head is marked “Slingerland Radio King” and t’s a very old dampening mechanism still attached to the drum hoop which presses against the rear head. When I purchased the drum, I noticed a power cord (!) coming out of the Slingerland logo plate, so I plugged it in and amazingly someone has placed a mechanism inside the drum with a rotating cylinder which projects various colored lights on the front drum head when plugged into an AC outlet. This mechanism is not old, and looks to be relatively modern. The good thing about it is that they didn’t damage anything when they put this in, so it can be easily removed without damaging the drum if someone wanted to remove it. The drum makes an excellent overall antique impression. T’s a sort of “splatter” paint scheme, which looks great, but I can’t tell if it’s original or not. I’m guessing it was done in the 1940’s when the head was painted. Oh, one of the foot “sockets” has a small metal foot which extends from the drum, while the other foot socket is missing this piece, which is really nothing more than a small metal post about the diameter of a pencil, so I’m sure it could be easily replaced. Please see my photos below to have a look at this nice item.
