A BEAUTIFUL MASSIVE HEAVY SOLID SILVER ALL ORIGINAL DATELINED AT A RARE AND VERY EARLY 1872 CHRONOMETER POCKET WATCH WITH A STOP WATCH FUNCTION IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH A BEAUTIFUL WHITE DIAL. COMPLETE WITH A SOLID SILVER ALBERT AND A LOVELY SILVER COMPASS FOB. DESCRIPTION: For your viewing pleasure today is a very nice 1872 solid HEAVY silver key wound beautiful and minty open face pocket watch. This watch is IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND HAS JUST BEEN SERVICED AND OILED. T seem to be no dings to the case. The front and rear covers close ok, with the rear cover being just slightly loose, but nothing too detrimental. The engine turned décor on the case back is in excellent to NEAR MINT condition showing NO wear to the eye. The cartouche has no personalizations. The watch is hall marked for SOLID SILVER in Three places dating the watch to 1872 (London).The watch weighs a whopping 135.4 grams including the movement! .It must have been very heavy to carry around all those years ago. The stunning BIG porcelain dial is white in color and has no hairlines that I can see. It has slight damage at 7 o'clock right on the edge. All of the black painted ROMAN numerals are crisp and pin sharp, as are the outer stopwatch seconds indicators. The dial is unsigned. The golden colored antique original hands are in absolutely excellent condition including the rare centre second hand. Even the dust cover is fully hall marked, and is in lovely condition. The glass crystal shows just one or two light marks and no chips to the eye. The watch has come fresh from an English country estate. The piece has a beautiful fusee movement which has just been serviced and oiled is running very well. It has a beautifully engraved balance cock, with a ruby endstone, and minty blue steel screws. The watch is keywound and key set. It keeps good time as tested over a 12 hour period. T is a key also supplied with this watch so that it can be used straight away. The movement is absolutely superb clean condition, and is signed in lovely Italic lettering with what looks like ' Wolfe and Harris Manchester' and is numbered 57670. The stopwatch function is controlled from a silver sliding button on the front bezel of the watch at two o'clock. When the button is slid over a brake is applied to the balance wheel to either start or stop the watch....totally awesome! This is a fine watch which is ready to wear, or store away as a heirloom for future generations.The watch measures a BIG 5.5cms in diameter excluding the bow and chain ring. CHAIN AND FOB: This beautiful timepiece is accompanied by a lovely SOLID silver Albert chain. The chain is in very good condition and has a RARE solid silver compass attached. The compass is slightly loose in its holder. The compass is not hall marked, but is silver. All of the links of the chain and the T bar, are marked with the lion passant. The chain weighs 34.0 grams. Please remember that vintage watches have survived for many decades by being treated well. Vintage watches are not for wearing while doing yard work, working out, or swimming.Vintage watches cannot keep time like their quartz cousins and will need altering on average between +-2 to +-5 mins per day. They are a little more destructible than modern watches. Vintage watches also require periodic service and cleaning. Every couple of years, they would like their 20,000 mile checkup, oil change, and general service.
