Antique Spanish American War Navy Eagle Embroidery C1900 C1900; Tribute to Troy, NY, sailor A fabulous handmade embroidery from the Spanish-American War era, say 1900 or so, beautifully preserved by the original family and celebrating a sailor from Troy, NY, who served during the conflict. His name was Edward Burke, and that's his picture in the lower quadrant. Also included in this fabulous texile shrine, which itself is affixed to a card board backer, are superb American flags, wreaths and a fantastically detailed American eagle at the top, this latter deocrative element raised from the surface of the piece (filled with batting, for a phenomenal three-dimensional effect). Silver and silken threading is noted, against a rich satiny black fabric backer, and we're pleased to note the piece is wonderfully preserved, in very good condition with just a touch of age-related color fading, as well as a few slightly loosened threads, but absolutely wonderful, in much better shape than one would expect to find ... It measures 20 1/8" X 27". Age: C1900 Region of Origin: American Price Comparison: $2000+ in antique gallery Product ID: 53837 Shipping Total For This Item
