NO PAYPAL OR OVERSEAS SHIPPING PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION.THIS IS AN ANTIQUE SPANISH OLIVE JAR UTILITY JAR VERY PRIMITIVE LOOKING.THESE WERE USED TO STORE MANY DIFFERENT THINGS WHEN SHIPS WOULD GO ON LONG VOYAGES FOODS, OILS, WATER, ETC. THIS WAS FOUND IN KEY WEST MANY YEARS AGO IN A VERY OLD DUMP AREA CLOSE TO THE OCEANS EDGE. SEAMEN WOULD EMPTY TRASH AND ITEMS NOT NEEDED ANY LONGER FROM THE SHIPS STORAGE TO LIGHTEN THE LOAD BEFORE A VOYAGE, HELPING TO GAIN MORE SPEED, OR TO MAKE ROOM FOR OTHER THINGS. IT WAS VERY DEEP IN THE MUD, 8 TO 10 FEET DOWN AND ABOUT 20 TO 30 FEET FROM THE WATERS EDGE.THE AREA THIS JAR WAS FOUND IS W THE SHIPS WOULD DOCK IN THE 1500'S 1600'S, AND 1700'S. IT IS FILLED IN NOW AND A ROAD IS OVER THE SPOT. AT THE TIME IT WAS FOUND, A BACKHOE WAS DIGGING TO PUT A SEWER TRAP LINE BOX IN. THE OPERATOR WAS NOT INTERESTED IN STOPPING THE DIGGING TO LET ANYONE GET ANYTHING OUT OF THE HOLE, THAT IS WHY THEY WERE ALL BROKEN, EXCEPT THIS ONE. T WERE ABOUT 10 OR 12 OF THESE JARS FOUND IN THE HOLE AND THIS WAS THE ONLY ONE TO COME UP IN ONE PIECE. T IS A PHOTO SEE PHOTOS OF ANOTHER ONE FROM THE SAME HOLE SAME DAY THAT IS ON DISPLAY IN THE KEY WEST AQUARIUM, IT WAS GLUED BACK TOGEATHER THE BEST POSSIBLE. NOTE THE DARK GLAZE ON BOTH THE JARS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DONE BEFORE THE VOYAGE TO STORE A CERTAIN KIND OF FOOD OR LIQUID IN IT. ALL THE JARS FROM THIS HOLE HAD THIS GLAZE. I HAVE SEEN MANY SPANISH OLIVE JARS BUT NEVER WITH THIS GLAZE, IT MAKES THE JARS MORE INTERESTING, RARE, AND DISTINCTIVE. I DOUBT ANY ONE HAS EVER FOUND ANY LIKE THESE BUT I CAN'T SAY FOR SURE.THE JARS ARE VERY THICK, LOOK AT THE ONE GLUED BACK TOGEATHER TO SEE HOW THICK THE VESSEL REALLY IS. IT HAS ALOT OF CHARACTER AND IS A VERY NICE PIECE OF KEY WEST HISTORY.

SEE THE PHOTO OF THE INSIDE OF THE JAR. T IS A PIECE OF TRASH STUCK TO THE INSIDE WALL. LOOKS TO CONTAIN A SMALL PIECE OF GLASS, VERY THIN, AND MAYBE PART OF A NAIL, ALSO A SMALL PIECE OF WOOD AND OTHER THINGS, NO TELLING WHAT ELSE IS STUCK IN THIS CHUNK. IT IS THICKER THAN THE PHOTO SHOWS AND ONLY ADDS TO THE CHARACTER AND HISTORY. I COULD HAVE REMOVED IT, THE VESSEL IS SO THICK IT WOULD NOT HURT ANTHING TO DO SO, I JUST LIKE IT T IT WAS PROABLY PUSHED IN OVER TIME FROM THE PRESSURE UNDERGROUND. T IS SOME RUSTY LOOKING AREAS ON THE OUTSIDE AND SOME STAINING, ALL SURFACE OR JUST SLIGHTY BELOW. NO CRACKS OR BREAKS ON THIS ONE, IT WAS FOUND WHOLE. T ARE SOME CHIPS ON THE MOUTH SEE PHOTO AND WORN SPOTS ON THE OUTSIDE, BUT LIKE I SAID THE JAR IS SO THICK ALL THIS IS JUST SURFACE OR SLIGHTY BELOW, SEE PHOTOS. THE STAND IS INCLUDED AND DISPLAYS THE JAR WELL. PAYMENT MUST BE RECEIVED IN 7 DAYS NO PAYPAL PLEASE I ONLY ACCEPT US POSTAL MONEY ORDERS AS ALLWAYS. THE JAR IS HEAVY, SHIPPING AND HANDLING WILL BE 20 DOLLARS IT WILL BE INSURED WITH DELIVERY CONFIRMATION AND PACKAGED VERY WELL. THANKS FOR LOOKING

SORRY I FORGOT TO STATE THE DIMENSIONS. THE AMPHORA OR OLIVE JAR IS 11 INCHES TALL, OVER 9 INCHES WIDE, 29 INCHES AROUND WITH A CLOTH MESSURING TAPE.THE MOUTH, TOP, INSIDE OPENING IS 2 AND THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH WIDE. THE TOP MOUTH FROM OUTER EDGE TO OUTER EDGE IS ALMOST 4 INCHES ACROSS AND THE LIP IS A LITTLE OVER 1 INCH THICK.
