Probably one of the Finest Antique Spiderweb Pottery Jugs we have ever been able to locate. Created in two halves that were joined and then hand formed. The Jug features a beautiful hand decorated Spiderweb pattern that is blue on a white base coat with a black interior. We first thought that this was a Salt Glaze but upon further review the top matte glaze does not have the characteristic orange peal finish that one would expect. Dating the Jug cannot be completely accurate but we believe it is at a minimum the mid-1800's but could be into the 1700's based on the hand made technique used and especially the Spiderweb pattern. The bottom seems to have a dark blue below glaze marks the we think is a "C" or "G", but hard to be certain. Please review all the photographs for Style, Forming Techniques, Pattern, Possible Marks, and Condition. Condition is Good for its age. We could not find any chips or crazing but there are two hairline cracks. One in the handle and one in the spout, however the jug is sound. Despite this, we feel the Technique may override the hairline cracks, bid accordingly. This Spiderweb pattern is highly collectible and it is quite uncommon for one to become available. The Jug is likely either Early American or British. It measures approximately 11" in height by 7" in diameter and is 1/4" in thickness. As always
