Columbus Plate in Green Transfer 1819-1864 Staffordshire, England This is a beautiful, antique Columbus transfer earthenware plate. It was done in light green underglaze by William Adams & Sons of Staffordshire, England. The Adams & Sons "Columbus" series had 14 various designs based on significant events in the journeys of Christopher Columbus. Collectors may note that these were also made in black and shades of pink, purple, and brown. Measures: 8 3/8 inches diameterCondition: Very nice display quality. Beautiful, shiny glaze throughout. Fine crazing throughout under glaze. No chips, nicks, breaks or restorations. The foot rim is rather smooth, not rough, as expected with a plate of this age. There are 3 tiny points on the front of the plate that happened as a result of resting on points in the kiln during the firing of the back glaze. Mark: In green transfer: an anchor and shield. The shield is printed with: Columbus. On a scarf below the anchor in a ribbon: W A & S as in last photo. Impressed mark: Adams Combined Shipping for multiple orders: If you are buying more than one item from us over the next 2 days, please do not pay until we send you an invoice.
