Antique STAFFORDSHIRE Pottery Figure / FigurineMAN AT THE WELL WITH JUGFor the condition of the figure, see the pictures below. Note that all the pictures below can be supersized for a closer look. It measures 7 1/2" in height. The base is 4 1/4" x 2 3/4". It weighs 15.5 ounces. There is a paper label on the bottom, probably from an antique store, that says "Staffordshire Moorish Man England 1843". There is some crazing. There are a few areas with paint loss (the man's beard, and the green/brown background). The whitish areas on the blue vest (lapels, left sleeve) seem to be there intentionally, and are meant to portray the man as being poor. I recently acquired through an international auction house a large collection of Staffordshire pottery figures. These were the property of the family trust of a prominent Southern California collector / patron of the arts.
