Antique Stanley Plane This is an antique Stanley #113 Circular Plane. This is the older style of this particular plane patented Sept. 25, 1877. The blade reads: "STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO. NEW BRITAIN CONN PAT'D APR. 13. 1876 REIS'D MAR. 20.1877" All the knobs work as they should. There is some nickel plating and japanning left. There is some rust, but it could be used as is or could be a great candidate for restoration.The following is information I obtained from supertool .com about this particluar model. #113 Circular plane, 10"L (10 1/4", 1936 on), 1 3/4"W, 3 1/2lbs, 1879-1942.You would think that the two other Stanley circular planes would have satisfied Stanley, but no, they had to come up with another design. This one probably arose from the need to compete with Leonard Bailey's better Victor design, the #20 , where the adjustment of the front and rear portion of the sole occurred in unison via a single adjusting knob.This plane has the typical thin steel sole attached to the main casting by dovetailed keys (the earliest design) or screws (later design to solve the problem of the sole breaking free). A large, mushroom-shaped knob, located on the front of the plane, adjusts the flexible sole by raising a screw that is attached to the forward pivoting arm.
