This antique Star quilt-top is 77" x 102". It is in excellent condition. The multi-colored fabrics from which the small diamond-shaped pieces within the stars vary somewhat in type, color and texture. The pink and natural-colored setting blocks are a fine-weave broadcloth type fabric. Each star is put together like a miniature Lone Star quilt. Each one is an eight-pointed star, with each diamond-shaped point of the star made up of many tiny diamond shapes. Each tiny diamond measures approximately 3/4" on each edge. I found several pattern names for blocks that are similar to these stars. The closest is "Stars upon Stars," Ladies' Art Company, 1898. Also similar is the "Virginia Star," from 101 Patchwork Patterns, 1931. Other names mentioned were "Harvest Sun," "Prairie Star," and "Ship's Wheel." The star blocks are approximately 14 1/2" square. The stars themselves are all hand-pieced. They are stitched to the squares and triangles around them by machine. Some of the setting and border pieces are put together by hand, and some by machine, in no particular pattern that I can discern. This quilt top has a few flaws. My husband has photographed most of them, and you should be able to see them in the enlarged versions, but I will also try to describe. I didn't find any holes. There are a couple of areas of dark spots. One group of them are in the corner square of one of the star blocks. They vary in size from pin-point-sized to about 1/4" in diameter, and are contained within an area about 1 1/4" square. The other group is in one of the pink bars between blocks. It consists of two small dark spots, 1/8" in diameter or less, about 5/8" apart. The rest of the damage is in the form of age spots, yellowing, or a general "browning" of the cream-colored setting blocks. Some of them (again, no particular pattern) are a different kind of fabric; the slightly coarser fabric seems to have aged more. I believe you'll be able to see enough of them in the photos to have a pretty good idea of the damage. I have not tried to clean this quilt top, although I suspect that some of the stains and age spots could be removed by someone with the right experience. I'm afraid I would do more damage than good by trying, so am selling it "as is." Tucked into this quilt, I found a small piece of card with my mother's handwriting in pencil, that says "Quilt that Mom Bass pieced." On the other side is printing about Fragrance, Room Scenter, etc. Mom Bass would be my grandmother. I'm 58, and she died when I was 7 years old. My dad was the youngest of her eleven children, so she was quite elderly by then, and wouldn't have done anything like this for many years before that. I will include the card, and a little more information about her, with the quilt. If you have any questions, or would like to see any further details, please ask for a better description or additional photos. All of my items come from a smoke-free home. I pack carefully and ship quickly; usually the next day after payment is confirmed. If I receive your payment early in the day, your shipment may go out the same day. I charge actual shipping (which may include the minimal cost of a container if not shipping Priority) +Delivery Confirmation (or Certificate of Mailing to International destinations). If you overpay at purchase, excess shipping will be refunded to you. Multiple purchases will be combined to save shipping costs. Please request, and wait for, my invoice for multiple item purchases. These are the approximate shipping costs for this quilt: $9.67 Economy Shipping – USPS Parcel Post with Delivery Confirmation – United States $9.85 USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation – United States (Either of the above may be less, depending on your location.) I have given Priority Mail as the default option in my listing, because there is so little difference in the cost once I provide the large Tyvek envelope (for adequate protection...
